John Nikolaras is a graduate-level intern completing his advanced placement at Calm Seas Psychotherapy. He is completing a Master’s degree in Social Work at Boston University, with a clinical specialization in Trauma, Violence, and Justice. He has chosen courses at Boston University that build a strong foundation of evidenced based therapeutic skills, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Substance Use Disorders, and Adult Trauma. He currently works as a case manager providing supportive counseling to older adults who are overwhelmed with stress and anxiety.

John has friends and family in the military and law enforcement, and while this background gives him perspective regarding some of the challenges they face, he balances that with the understanding that no two people have the same struggles. This balance allows him to individualize therapy to ensure that treatment is relevant to you and created with your specific goals in mind.

John believes in an exploratory, collaborative approach to therapy, where long lasting growth is more likely to occur in a safe nonjudgemental space.
