Calm Seas Psychotherapy, LCSW, PLLC is a trauma-trained telehealth private practice specializing in mental health care for first responders, law enforcement, military service members, veterans, and their families.
We hire LCSWs, LMHCs, LMFTs, psychologists, and other fully licensed mental health professionals. Positions are available in Buffalo, Syracuse, and Mount Sinai, with remote options available in select cases. Applicants must be licensed in at least one state we operate in and licensable in New York State.

Clinical Review by Our Team

Selected candidates are invited to complete our Pre-Interview Clinical Candidate Questionnaire — a detailed, scenario-based assessment of your clinical experience, trauma treatment knowledge, and professional values.

Virtual Interview with Clinical Leadership
You'll participate in a 45-minute video interview with our Clinical Director and/or Director of Clinical Operations.

Credential Verification & References
Candidates who advance will complete licensure verification and provide two professional references. A state-mandated background check is conducted at this stage.

Frequently Asked Questions
What licensure is required to apply for a clinical position?
We require full, unrestricted licensure in your state(s) of practice. We hire LCSWs, LMHCs, LMFTs, and doctoral-level psychologists (PhD/PsyD). Associate-licensed clinicians are not eligible for staff clinician roles but may explore our internship program.
Are positions W-2?
All clinical positions are structured on a fee-for-service / billable hour basis. Compensation is based on caseload — you are paid per billable session. This is not a salaried position. Per diem is included. Full-time availability is strongly preferred, and benefits are available for full-time clinicians only.
Do I need prior experience working with first responders or military populations?
Prior experience with first responder, military, or veteran populations is strongly preferred. Candidates with a personal or professional background in these fields — including prior law enforcement, military service, corrections, or emergency services — are especially encouraged to apply. Specialized onboarding training is provided, but we expect candidates to arrive with genuine interest and, ideally, direct exposure to these populations.
What states does Calm Seas currently operate in?
We currently provide services across multiple states: NY, FL, SC, NC, TX, ID, AZ, PA, VT, NJ, ME, VA, MN, and CT. Clinicians must be licensed in at least one state we operate in and must be licensable in New York State. Licensable in New York means you meet the eligibility requirements to obtain a New York license, even if you are not yet licensed there. This is a firm requirement.
How large is a typical caseload?
Caseload size is built collaboratively based on your availability and role type. Full-time availability is strongly preferred. We are looking for clinicians who are ready to build and sustain a full caseload — not those seeking a supplemental or part-time arrangement.
Hours & Scheduling
Calm Seas operates 7 days a week, 5:00am–11:00pm. Clinicians are expected to maintain consistent availability within these hours. Scheduling is flexible within that window, but full-time commitment and long-term caseload stability are expected.
What EHR and telehealth platforms does Calm Seas use?
We use SimplePractice as our EHR and scheduling platform, and RingCentral for communication. HIPAA-compliant telehealth tools are used for all sessions. Training on all platforms is included as part of onboarding — no prior experience with these specific systems is required.
Is there clinical supervision or consultation available for staff clinicians?
Yes. We offer regular team consultation meetings and encourage a culture of peer support and reflective practice. Our clinical environment is built around trauma-trained, collaborative care. Supervision for licensure hours may be available — please inquire during your interview.
