Joseph Piccoli

MSW Candidate

Joseph Piccoli holds a bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management from Northern Arizona University and is currently pursuing his Masters’ degree in Social Work from St Joseph’s University New York. He brings 21 years of military combat and civilian experience as a U.S. Air Force Special Warfare Pararescueman. During his military career he was deployed to six active combat locations; twice to Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA), twice Operation Enduring Freedom – Horn of Africa (OEF-HOA) and twice to Operation Enduring Freedom-Afghanistan (OEF). His countless humanitarian deployments consist of Hurricane Katrina, Marie, Rita, Wilma and over a dozen rescue support missions with NASA space flight. As a military critical care flight Paramedic Joseph has worked with New York state agencies such as FDNY, NYPD, ESU and NY State Troopers. As a Paramedic he has worked with both Nassau and Suffolk EMS agencies understanding what these invaluable men and women go through on and off the job.
Joseph saw the overwhelming need for a strengthened peer response to transitioning military. As president of St Joseph’s Student Veteran Association and a NASPA certified veteran peer counselor, he has already begun his work to reach fellow military members and help provide them with the support and resources they need to navigate life outside the service.
Joseph utilizes the strengths perspective to help individuals find their inner resilience.
Joseph also uses the person in an environment perspective with the knowledge that the culture within the service is in stark contrast to civilian life. He is drastically aware that military, law enforcement and EMS are often inadequately equipped with tools to process the job and can assist in providing treatment to smoothly process the traumas of the Emergency career field.

His specific knowledge of Emergency Service and trauma makes him a true asset as a Candidate with Calm Seas Psychotherapy helping others work through theirs. Joe is motivated to fine tune his CBT skills and comes from a trauma informed approach. Joseph’s intent is to work with those with similar experience and families dealing with the stressors of the emergency service career fields, hoping to return meaning, purpose and happiness to his clients.
